This fridge is loaded with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a smart water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I was expecting better.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It features a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French-door refrigerators. It also has a large capacity for frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. But it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in each compartment to create a customized storage arrangement for the items you need to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. The LED lighting is an attractive accent. The storage bins in the door include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers have temperature controls, so you can set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings to be a bit difficult on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and has a ton of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked, when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in a few other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to pour out at a time. It does have a countdown feature on the display of the fridge to show how much water you have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge has the standard French door design, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. There's also a full-width storage drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it easy to move the ice when needed. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of your items. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food and an ice storage bin.

Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a simple method to monitor your fridge and manage it, especially when away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat, but it doesn't necessarily enhance the performance of the fridge. The fridge took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than the other fridges we test. This could be due to its greater capacity.

The doors are another problem with this fridge. They have sunken handles at the front, which allows shorter people to easily open them from the bottom, however they're still difficult for taller people to guide closed without slamming the doors. It would have been much better to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is superior to counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter depth refrigerator that comes with an ice maker, making it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a minimalist design that's not as striking in appearance as some of the competition, but it has enough features to make it a good pick. Its most notable feature is the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser, as well as an excellent Ice machine that is fast.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. The drawer allows you to divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can store foods that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted by using an outside slider that is located inside the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across all areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the fridge didn't differ much from 38 degrees. That's a good performance, but it doesn't quite make it into the top ten in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer for more precise readings of your fridge's temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
